I fired up the poker machine as the kids were eating dinner last nite. (Hello, my name is Brian, and I'm addicted to poker) I got into a Full Table 1/2 game at INTERPOKER and had 30+ minutes before going to baseball. I was also catching up on e-mail and sorting the bills at the same time. I feel like I play better when my mind is half occupied, I really don't know why I feel that way, but I tend to make better decisions...crazy.
I went up a little over $40 playing 3 hands - AA, QQ and 66. I made very little on AA, but flopped trips with QQ and 66, unfortunately the only maniac at the table had $20 behind him and I stacked him twice.
+8.25 after 10 hours +51.25 after 10.5 Did I mention that I'm really liking INTERPOKER? As far as I can tell, they don't offer referrals, but they have a pretty generous monthly and new player bonuses there. 100% up to $100 for 500 raked hands, and the rake counts on all tables. I know there is also some %31-%33 rakeback offers out there too.
Last night's baseball game was fairly uneventful. I watched (played with) the girls for most of the game. The other team did not have a pitcher that could throw strikes, although MasterP managed to strike out once, then walk twice.
One thing that does piss me off is at the beginning of the season, I spoke with the coach and let him know that I was working with P on pitching. Now, I'm NOT one of THOSE dads, so don't get me wrong. I'm emotionally invested in my children, yes, but I am also aware of their faults and abilities. My son can throw strikes, at this age, that's what it's all about. He is not a fireballer, but not a lollipopper either...he can throw. Now, the team he is on has at least 2 very good pitchers. I know the coach has worked with them before and has seen them play. I understand he is comfortable with them, and they are older and more experienced. However, last night we only had 2 guys that could pitch and in the last inning, the coach puts a kid in who he has never seen pitch. WTF? Now the capper here is that I had taken my neighbor's kid to the game with us. MasterP just happened to get lucky and have a friend on the team. So who does the coach pull in for mop up duty, but this kid?? Pissed me off for sure. Maybe the coach saw me bring this kid, and is so addlebrained that he can't remember who my son is? I don't know. But this kid was a lollipopper, and I want to make sure the coach doesn't think he's my son. Blah Blah Blah....wow that's a whole lot about nothing. Next season I sign up to be a coach....case closed.
So I get home, and MAYBE I could of pushed the kids into bed and gotten into the MOOKIE . But they needed baths, and the requisite attention/book reading etc. despite it being 10 o'clock on a school nite. I plopped down at the computer and signed up for the second chance tourney (MOOKIE-not) and play some seriously stuuupid poker, folding A4 on a AJK flop K turn...why the hell did I call preflop exactly?? Then went out on the "Accidental Tourist' A7sooted. I stole that from somebody....sorry.
Meanwhile I was 2 tabling a 2 table tourney and 2/4 NL on interpoker. I played very aggressive in the tourney, stealing several pots. Has anyone else noticed that foreigners limp ALOT? Even with premium hands! It's quite an adjustment. Down to 5 handed I made an ill advised move with 2nd pair, and got down to ~T900 into push zone. I doubled on a steal attempt by the chip leader, then drew a straight (QTd) to take out #4. Unfortunately I can't remember how I got to HU, but I pushed with QJ when the chipleader woke up with 88 and I doubled up when the J hit the river. Then I couldn't get the guy to commit to a hand, and pushed everything until he decided to call with Q8 when I had an ace and I took it down.
In the 2/4 game there was a donkey that had money behind him this time and I doubled my less than max 100 buy in on the second hand I played. He got me back a little later when he sucked out a flush calling an all in with QTh Vs KK. Luckily he only had about 40 bucks behind him by then played about an hour and a half and ended up +61.
Soooo, I was +51.25 after 10.5 hours and am now +112.25 after 12. Wo0t!

Life gets in the way
Its been nearly a week since playing any poker, though I've been trying to keep up with my blogging brethren via Bloglines.
Congrats to Hoy and cc for cashing in the MATH. I had a few guys over to watch the Falcoons get demolished by the Saints. I'm not sure who took down the WWDN , but congrats to whoever.
My son has Baseball on 2 times a week for the next couple of weeks. They played their 4th game last night. I vaguely remember my first foray into Kid-pitch baseball. I was one of the fastest kids on the team, but I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with a shotgun. Unfortunately, despite being a lefty my skills at baseball were never developed. For this reason, I try to spend a good amount of time with my son on fundamentals. He is playing above his age, since he is on the cusp between T-Ball and Kid Pitch. I decided that Fall Ball would be a great head start for him in the Kid-Pitch league. He needs some help swinging the bat, but his fielding and throwing is above average, even compared to the 8 and 9 year olds he is playing with.
Hopefully I can get home in time for the MOOK mookie99.bigopokerroom.com, but I'm not holding my breath. Life is getting in the way of poker for the time being, and I have to admit, it ain't all that bad.

DADI, and 10 hours.
Despite being almost an hour late, I made a decent run at the DADI. O/H 8 is my favorite and weakest game, as I play too many hands (big surprise) and get sucked out on by inferior holdings...2pair on the flop no goot?
In the meantime I played some 1/2 NL at INTERPOKER to grind out my bonus there. I've already secured my $100 initial investment and have about 175 left....If I had any idea as to my raked hands, I could adjust, but since their system sucks balls, no one can give me an answer as to how close to my bonus I am. So I'm content to take money off the foreigners and soft, pliable monkeys that occupy that site. I played for a little over an hour and nearly doubled my $50 buy in.(46)
I will count my first cash session in a few days towards my HOUR challenge.
I was -37.75 after 9 hours and am now +8.25 after 10. Yippee!! Did I mention that I am a full table MASTER??

12 hours
One hour tonight and like a true dumbass I closed the window before getting my oh so intersting stats but I'm sure I got my VP$IP below 25% on 2 full tables. One 25/PL one 50/NL
Lost my buy in at 25/nl on a horrible beat that I'll just let go. Full table 50/NL is my game...down a buck total for one hour.
-37.75 after 9 hours. boo.

Weekend Pass
I had a great weekend that involved not a single hand of poker. I totally got to be DAD the couch potato.. it was awesome.
Friday night we played meet the Fockers as a neighbor had happy hour on our street. We got to meet our 'new' neighbors and talk shop, football, (college variety) golf (2 of my neighbors are Sales rep's) and of course kids. There were about 15 adults and 80(ok slightly exaggerated) running around. It was a nice relaxing time, but my mind was on something else.
TV
My big honkin' TV showed up Friday afternoon, and I did not get a chance to play with it earlier, so when we got home I set it up post haste. And as feared my HD service did not work...ugh. SO I decided that Friday nite at 10 after several cocktails was not the best time to complain to DirecTV. I set up the other receiver and we watched Cinderella Man at a measly 480i, but tomorrow I graduate to 1080p. WO0T!
Saturday I went to a buddy's house and watched some football, I got second again in my college pickem league and its already pissing me off. First week I tied for first, but lost the tiebreaker, 2nd week I get 2nd, this week I miss by one....dammmit USC!
Hope is not lost though as it is a long season and I only need to win one week to cover the year. I am also First overall at this point, which garners a price at the end of the season as well.
Saturday night was camping under the stars....2 times a year my n'hood has a camping night in the common grounds. Last year was miserable with rain, but my son and I stuck it out. This year, the girls wanted to stay all night, so we packed em all up. We had a great time with relay races, tug of war, and the like. As night fell, the obligatory smores were being roasted, and someone had the foresight of bringing a projector. There was a tarp hung over the baseball backstop and they played Pirates of the Caribbean to the crowd, It was better than the drive-in, since we could sprawl our blankets out under the clear cool night. The whole fam snuggled under the blankets. The girls passed out before the 'scary' parts near the end, which was good. But my son the trooper made it to the end. He was even a little upset that he had to go to sleep at midnight, but it didn't last long as he passed out fairly quickly.
Finally, the wife and I had a couple of hours to sit by the fire, and just talk. We don't get alot of that these days, and it was an absolute perfect night. Except for sleeping. Even my drugs didn't help quell the pain in my shoulder against the slightly padded ground. I am definitely getting an air mattress before the next camp-out.
Sunday was Me, my remote, a fridge full of beer and the sunday ticket!! My son watch with me a little bit, but the wife had activities for the kids and herself for most of the day. I Sat and wept with joy.

Sunday was Me, my remote, a fridge full of beer and the sunday ticket!! My son watch with me a little bit, but the wife had activities for the kids and herself for most of the day. I Sat and wept with joy.

Take a glimpse.
I'm gonna go nuts I think. This stupid challenge is making me feel like a machine again. A not very good poker playing machine at that.
I know now why I haven't tried this sort of poker before. It bores me. I just don't have the patience to hold things together like that...I'm wired differently.
I've said before that I don't play poker necessarily for the money. This is about competition, about being 'better', such an ambiguous esoteric goal. Its what I'm about though, that's how I roll. I'm a feel player by most accounts. I'm aggressive, I pick spots, I convince my opponents that I am better. (or at least attempt to)
One thing I think I've discovered is that ABC poker wins in the lower limits, pretty simple. If I can extrapolate my results on full ring tables vs 6-handed. I'm actually a very good player at a full table. The reason is that I simply play tight agg. I push when I think I'm ahead sniff out flush draws and farm sets.
I will finish this challenge though...my goal now is to break even...no pressure.
Anyway....I'm trying yet again to justify myself. I feel the need to do this alot for some reason. Every 3 weeks or so I get involved in a game I have no business being in. Something way over my head (right Aaron?). I do this, not cause I'm chasing profits or losses, but cause I'm chasing bigger and better players. I want to play the best players I can play... win or lose, that's my validation. I just don't have the discipline to work my way up there.
So, last night after working on the HOUR challenge ( I never really did set a goal) I played the WWDN:not and got my FH kicked in the ass by quads. I went out early in 2 sng's and decided my luck must change. I played $40 OH8 and made it through a break and a half before going down, then really went off the deepend and played the $100MTT...IGH about mid-pack. I was amazed how loose this game was. Anywho..
I decided it must be Pokerstars that was the problem, certainly not myself. SO I perused for a new site to play and whore a bonus on. I haven't signed up for INTERPOKER as of yet and they have a %100 bonus up to $100 going on, so I installed the software and plopped my hundo down.
I was somewhat disappointed at the number of players, but I guess that's expected coming form pokerstars. The best game I could find was 3/6 limit. I watched the game for a few minutes and decided that the players weren't anything special, and the betting wasn't getting grossly capped. Despite being under-funded, I joined. I played fairly loose again, it just what I do. Despite being loose, I was getting cards...frequently, and there were 2 guys at the table who just kept paying me off.
The wife finally got home and I was up 260 for the 2+ hour session. I just need to find out how much more I need to play to clear the bonus now and GTFO.
So this is me in a nutshell, Baron Donkmunder Aggrolimp.

14 hours
OK...I give up on 6-handed.
Went down another buy in early six handed, but made it up on full ring.
I went a little over an hour, but we'll call it an hour.
Here are my oh so exciting stats:
During current Hold'em session you were dealt 158 hands and saw flop:
- 19 out of 26 times while in big blind (73%)
- 10 out of 25 times while in small blind (40%)
- 26 out of 107 times in other positions (24%)
- a total of 55 out of 158 (34%)
Pots won at showdown - 11 of 24 (45%)
Pots won without showdown - 17
I think my hand selection is getting better, but I still limp into way too many hands six handed, so I'm just going to stick to full ring for now.
-36.75 after 8 hours.

Once again played one full ring one 6-handed.
During current Hold'em session you were dealt 257 hands and saw flop:
- 28 out of 44 times while in big blind (63%)
- 25 out of 42 times while in small blind (59%)

- a total of 87 out of 257 (33%)
Pots won at showdown - 15 of 26 (57%)

6 Handed killed me as I tried playing a little tighter this session. That shit don't work for me i guess.
I went down 2 buy-ins on the 6 handed table ended up 23.35 full ring.
My 2 trouble hands were 2nd nut flush and flopped 2 pair with KJ.
AK kicked me in the junk there.
-75.90 for a 4 hour session, -54.10 after 6 hours.

20 Hours
OK I decided to go ahead and challenge myself. I have tried to loosely challenge myself before, this time I will actually take notes. So I will play 25 or 50 NL tables, full or 6 handed. I will play 2 tables at a time at least to make this go quickly as possible.
First session I play 1 Full and 1 6 handed 50/NL.
I count this session as 2 hours.
During current Hold'em session you were dealt 150 hands and saw flop:
- 19 out of 29 times while in big blind (65%)
- 15 out of 26 times while in small blind (57%)
- 31 out of 95 times in other positions (32%)
- a total of 65 out of 150 (43%)
Pots won at showdown - 11 of 21 (52%)
Pots won without showdown - 19
6 handed Table = 60.95
Full table = 60.85
Woot 21.80 profit.
Um....DO I play WAY too many hands or what?! Maybe 6 handed skews that a bit.
We'll see if that averages out next time.

Rain Out
My son had a rain out last night, so I was able to play the WWDN last night. I got a few cards at the beginning, but could'nt make anything of them....I played 'foldem' for about an hour, occasionally stealing with the hammer. It was a tough road, and I just didn't get cards to play. I finally made an ill advized move with QJ unsooted...IGH in about 35th I think.
"my particular brand" of holdem dictates I get some cards at some point..I am far too impatient to wait too long, and if I get nothing, I play something stoopid.
Anywho, seeing as though my poker time is going down, I'm thinking of giving myself a challenge. The SNG challenge didn't work out so great.
I'd like a suggestion or 2, but I'm thinking about running an HOUR challenge. Where I give myself a certain set number of hours at 25 or 50 or 100/NL and report my failur....I mean success.
Thoughts?

Ok, I'll wrap it up and put it behind me.....We got moved in eventually. After unfucking the U-haul from my driveway. (No one can tell me I didn't try to get the truck up that hill) We got everything loaded in 2 moves. It sure was nice that I was moving only 1.5 miles away in the same neighborhood was definitely a saving grace. Our sellers were there till midnight getting their stuff out. They still left a few things...o well.
I'll leave the Sept 11 talk to someone who is much more eloquent than I. I remember getting to work and setting up the BBC and CNN feeds in the boadrdoom, so people could witness the carnage on the big screen. It was truly surreal, just having everyone sitting in the room, silent in disbelief.
I finally got the DSL installed last night. I had to rewire the cat5 going to the office, but I was able to make it work. Of course I had to stress test it, and got to play online for the first time in a few days. I got the kids home and in bed after my son's B-Ball game and had just enough time to clean dishes, start laundry and fire up PS to join MATH .
The turning point of my game was taking out the host with JJ vs 99. Things moved fairly quickly and I was a chip vacuum. We finally got 3 handed and I took out the 2 smaller stacks with aces. Boy is it nice when there are 2 big bets in front of you when holding aces.
Anywho, I'm a bit distracted lately and busy as hell. Maybe I can attribute not thinking too much to my win. I should try more of that.
In case anyone is interested, my back is truly screwed up. I had 2 appointments with back dudes and did not like what they had to say. Should I get a 3rd opinion?? It's quite possible that I will need back surgery sooner rather than later, and that just outright stinks. I need to find a new skill that doesn't require 10-14 hours at a computer per day....I'm at a loss.
Good luck to those of you playing the WWDN tonight..I will be cheering my boy on in his 2nd game of the year...Hopefully he gets to pitch tonight.

Touch and go
Hey there!
I'm beginning to think about starting to return to semi-normalness. Moving sucks, I think we can all agree. I believe we ended up having a semi-decent move despite the myriad of obstacles thrown in our way.
One week ago was closing eve, our buy was lined up and ready to go at noon. Unfortunately, our bank was being the problem. As of 5pm Wednesday, there was not supposed to be a closing on or buy. My loan officer, as it turns out, is a huge lying piece of manure.
Lets back up.... Both the wife and I had done our fair amount of research on lenders. She was looking on the discount broker side. I was checking out banks. My first obvious choices came in between our current bank, our mortgage bank, or our LOC mortgage bank. The bank which rhymes with 'watch ova ya'(money) was out, their rates sucked. Our second holder, who's name could stand for Robbing Baldfacelying Cocksuckers, was offering to match any discount brokers rate, but for the higher closing costs we gained the "security" of a big bank, and the assurance of a quick approval and package delivery from our "VP" loan officer. He failed to mention that he was the VP of utter BS, but that's beside the point.
So less than 18 hours from our scheduled closing Mr VP calls and says the package won't be ready, the safe, easy and fast process has been delayed because of a 'proprietary system' or as I inferred, utter stupidity and incompetence....same difference.
Long story short (I know too late) our Closing attorney knew someone at the bank and he started rattling chains. By the time we officially sold our house, we had a new closing set up and our sellers were on board we had to get to our closing immediately. FIVE HOURS LATER....we had our new house!!
Since we had so little time to plan our move, we could not find professional movers...keep in mind we literally signed a contract and moved in within 2 weeks.
I had a POD ordered but cancelled it since we now had a place to put our crap. I had to get a U-haul on a vacation weekend. I knew this was going to be an adventure. I had reserved a truck for Saturday, and was assured I would get a call from the dealer nearest to me with the truck. I called the place and confirmed they had a truck available to me. When I got there, there was no truck, none. As fate would have it there was another customer waiting in front of me with the same issue, but he had pre-paid (idiot). I got on the horn to U-haul central, which might as well be some trailer park in Arkansas, to find my truck. Once again the computer is at fault...the computer says there is supposed to be a truck....I tell the brainiac behind the counter that he had confirmed with me over the phone that he in fact had the truck and could see it in his lot....WTF
Turns out my (or the customer in front of me) truck had been rented and was supposed to be back at nine. Nevertheless there were too many people for too few trucks. They sent me about 15 miles further away where there was a another truck....guess what, no truck.... I was on full jump through the phone tilt by this point as the out of luck pre-paid hosers came in the door.....I just had to laugh and let them spew venom over the poor uhaul lackey. The dipshit on the phone swore up and down that they had a truck at the next place.....another 10 miles away.
At last I got my truck and cruised on down the road....with an empty tank. OH holy hell these people suck balls.
ok...I'll post this and continue later...I know..I know, I suck and you don't really care anyway....but somtimes you just gotta let it out.

Unbelievable.
Maybe I'l post the entire drama of "the buying of the house" at some point, but right now its still to fresh.
The main point is that I have a phat new house. We got it on our tems for the most part and (just) in our timeframe. We owe a huge debt of thanks to our broker (mother in law) and our closing attorney for essentially being unwilling to take no for an answer.
Here's a couple of pics:

Now, If someone would like to send a truckload of cash my way, that'd be great!

Crunch time
Nearing the zero hour on our house closing. Brokers are ready with pens in hand, lawyers are shuffling papers across desks, agents are ....doing their hair.(what the fuck DO they do?) buyers and sellers are franticly packing, cleaning, changing addresses, setting up utilities, and generally stressing out. I've been assured that all systems are go, that we will own a new house by Thursday afternoon.
I'm still holding my breath.
I finally got to see the doctor again yesterday. I complained that the Physical Therapy wasn't doing anything, and I simply couldn't take the muscle relaxers and expect to function as a human being. After more poking and prodding and tests, I suppose he decided I wasn't making this all up in my head and ordered an MRI. He seems to think I have a herniated disk, pinching my nerves. Which is essentially what I told him 3 weeks ago....but what the fuck do I know? On the plus side he gave me some great new drugs! I had the first pain-free night I've had in weeks. Sure I'm a little loopy, but such is the price we pay.
I managed to recoup some losses a the table last night. I wasn't able to money in the MATH last night, but I flamed out early, and didn't draw it out at least.
I was lucky enough to have weak_player at the table so he could share how much of a moron I was on Sunday night. Lets just say I was playing a game I had no business playing at limits I DEFINITELY had no business playing. But hey, I had fun.
In case you're wondering, I withdrew some $ from party and they threw the doom switch on me. I will NEVER deposit money at that site, but I will gladly take the free stuff.
I scored 2 wins and 2 cashes last night out of 6 tourneys including the MATH. I also won a buy in or so at 25NL. So bottom line is I feel good at the tables, maybe a little too goot. I will try to play the WWDN tonight if I can.

Grinding
I used to think that in order to be a successful Poker Player that I needed to "grind it out" at the lower limit cash tables in order to get my chops. Certainly NL is out of the question. Now... I like poker as much (if not more) than the next guy, but I can't think of a more meaningless and fruitless approach to poker.
I know I know... This is what you're supposed to do, this is how you make money playing poker. What I decided is this approach would essentially kill poker for me. I tried...Lord knows I tried. I spent countless hour trying to 'beat' low stakes limit games. I became a computer...An atomotron....seriously, if bots DON'T exist, my name ain't Brian.
I couldn't stand it. My inner gambler, my Id, whatever wouldn't let me.
Two traits shape me as a player.. I know that I devalue myself when possible, I downplay my ego, and my deep desire to win in an effort to make you guys think I don't care. But I care, deeply.
The first trait is that of a thrillseeker. I enjoy watching the chips come across the table (especially in my direction). But its the thrill of competition, combat if you will. Part of being a thrillseeker in poker carries negative expectations, and negative results. Sometimes I'm just compelled to hit that 4-outer on the river, I'll take my chances and live with the results. Any edge you can get in poker can be cultivated and used. If I'm perceived as a loose maniac, I know it, and I can use that. By the way I have seen loose maniacs, and I am not one.
Secondly, I have obtained the knowledge that despite the cards in my hand, I am better than my competition. I don't mean to offend anyone, but every poker player needs this trait. Some feed it, some keep it at bay.
What DRIVES you to play this game? If it's making money, why not go be a mortgage broker? I think being a mortgage broker might actually be easier than making a living at poker.
/soapbox
Anyway I tried to grind (yes, the man knows irony) out some more hands at PP and clear my $30 bonus. I played a little over 100 raked hands on 2 50NL tables. I couldn't play very long cause admittedly I was dog tired. I haven't gotten much more than 5 hours sleep a night this week due to the revolving list of moving shit, back pain, and poker playing. Oh add a little stress to that list as well.
I distinctly remember the last time I got a 'free' bonus at PP. I turned my $30 into over 400 in less than a week. I was so full of my own shit that I started playing 100 SNG's. One cash and 4 losses later I had boneheaded myself out of a nice payday. That ain't me now..I'm fighting for something these days, I may actually be starting to take this seriously. In short, I'm dead money.
But really, I want to approach this with my eyes open. I can use the past as a reminder not to be a complete idiot.........maybe. I built my stack to just under $200, I have about 80 raked hands to go. Again, just like the last time I did this, I can't believe just how horrible the players are at PP. At least at this level. Or am I just getting cards?? We'll see in another 80 hands or so I guess.
BTW sorry I missed the WWDN(NOT) last night...I was asleep by 10:30....ahh that felt good.
PS I almost to give a shout to my Big Brother (king1112 at PS) on his 41st Birthday!!!!
DAMN YOUR OLD!

Residual effects
Played in the always fun MOOK Last night.... I didn't go into it with a good feeling, and the wife was a bit perturbed, so my attention was split for a good 30 minutes. I was having a lot of fun though at the first table with Eric (bone_daddy) and Vegas Rico. We were all trying to establish dominance over the table, with mixed results...Rico eventually tried to steal too much, as I was trying to steal from BD. He even remarked early on how much fun it was to raise me in position. I guess my aggro-donk style is permiating.
We were joined by SteelerJosh and Hoy at some point. A few hands after they joined I re-raised Hoy 3 or 4x the with AQh. I figured it was a steal attempt or maybe mid pairs, so he would lay down a more marginal pair or any steal or draw. Of course he Hoys me, which would leave me crippled. I'm dead sure that the WWDN finish was fresh in both of our heads and figure out he's got a pretty good hand, definitely paired or AK. So I'm dominated or its a coinflip, and of course I'm a donk and cant lay down my AQSOOOTED, so I convince myself he's holding undercards and decide to gamble. He shows the obligatory AA and IGH around 20th. Well played sir.
Residual effects and emotion is definitely to blame. If I had not lost to HOY heads up on Tuesday, I lay those down...
So I played a little 50NL but was not in the mood to be too patient. I wandered over to party to donk off my 'free' $30 on some short handed play. Unfortunately my plan was foiled as I played about 125 of my required 300 raked hands and finally logged off around 1 with a little over $90 in my PP kitty. I either have a week or a month to complete my requirement, but hopefully I can do it before the wife gets home tonight.

Happy Anniversary
Ok I lied.
Despite being my 8th Wedding Anniversary and the fact that we close on our house in a week I was able to get entered into the WWDN because of several circumstances.
1. I worked my ass off when I got home.
-I finished cleaning out the attic, consolidated trash, fed and bathed the kids.
2. The girls.
-The mother and sister inlaws were there. They came, they saw, they packed. All the women did was pack, smoke cigarettes, clean, and drink. In that order, until about 12:30. What can I say, the wife was busy, I was released for good behavior.
3. Boo boos
-In addition to my legitimately ailing back, I managed to get a nice sliver of glass in the bottom of my foot, making walking a bit uncomfortable. (yes that's a bit understated)
So I fired up PS and joined. I was able to get a few hands in before I had to take the kids up to bed. I managed to donk off a good bit for no apparent reason. I can't remember.
I got back a few minutes later and was able to play wait n' see. Blinds were still very low and I was able to grind back up a bit. Now I wish that I could give you some truly special insight to key hands and analyze my thinking, but to be perfectly honest, I was in one of those unconscious in the moment moods. I'm not sure if its good or bad, but I honestly don't recall any monumental calls or bad beats. Maybe HOY can help you there.
All I do know is that when we got to the final table I was chipleader and stayed so until we were 3 handed. The one hand I DO remember is HU with HOY. I have a lot of respect for hoyazo since he obviously puts much more time and effort into blogging and into poker than I do. He was playing shortstack poker, which is essentially push with anything that might possibly win. I get KJ in the bb and he HOYs on a TQx hand. His range is decent but anywhere across the board. He could have matched up the x. What's really funny is as I'm thinking, I type in 'oesd' to see if he will say anything. Nothing. Essentially it comes to the fact I've got 2 overs, and a chance at the nut straight. I call and Hoy says 'nice read I have oesd' . Cards turn and he's got the baby end of the draw. I say yipee!!! 'me too' except he fills his on the river and takes the 2-1 lead instead of losing. c'est la'vie. My spirit was broken, and I couldn't recover.
Actually, I was pissed....really pissed. From 20 players down I felt totally in control and played like it. It was my tournament to win and I couldn't close the deal. I went outside to vent with the girls but they weren't much help. NO 'At least you got second' doesn't work. SO I decided to make my $80+ profit work for me.
I joined a HORSE table with the minimum and donked it away fairly quickly. This was easily the most aggressive HORSE table I have been at, and I did not adjust. Bye Bye $40.
I played a $12 double shootout to the Sunday mill and made it to 3 players at the first level. I pushed with a good sized stack with TT and was called by ultra-agg with QJo.....next
8.50 RAZZ turbo Satellite. IGH in 90th out of ~225.
And Finally I say 'fuck it' and join a $55 2-table SNG. Again I get sucked out HU. Me with A3c villain with Ks6d. He rivers a flush after I hit my A. Was looking at 400+ profit and had to settle for ~300 which when you play my usual stakes is a pretty hefty profit. GO ME!

giddyup
HORSE is a blast! I started playing PS HORSE games last week and have been up and down. Stud is my biggest leak at this point as I tend to be a bit loose in 1/2. Omaha h/l continues to be my favorite as so many people it seems chase cards. Although I've sworn to be a better bookkeeper, I just forget. I've played 5 sessions of HORSE and have had to rebuy only once. I am buying for the minimum (40) which helps track my expenditures, but I am up ~60BB in those sessions. Not great numbers I don't think due to my generally loose play while I learn the game a little better.
I played the MATH last night with a nice turnout of 20 and I was able to luck my way into the money (3rd) despite trying to give my money away at the most inopportune times. Congrats to (Jordan)for taking his first blogger tournament!!!??! First? Kudos to lifeisagrind as well for bullying into second.
I'm still too frazzled with other crap to actually take notes or anything, but I can recall a few interesting hands.
I have a dwindling stack(~T2200) and get AQc UTG+3. Mowen has made a 3x raise (400) and I make it 800. Folds around and he pushes. I put him on a decent hand, maybe JJ, but I have the odds to call. He shows nines and I manage to luckbox into a broadway straight on the river. Earlier I made a similar play with AQo calling into AK. So I'm thinking its a loose call, but the circumstances warranted it. The earlier call was against jeciimid(SP?) when I had a very large stack and it went all in pre-flop, after an initial raise by me. I am not crazy about that call, however, I tend to get shown down a good bit because of my loose/passive image.
I must have had the hammer at least 4 times last night, winning some good pots with 3 of them for sure, losing one to the unflappable lifeisagrind.
4 handed I had QJo in the SB and raised Jordan a good bit, he pushed and for some stupid reason I called. Well, the stupid reason is I thought Jordan thought I was stealing and made a position raise, which is somewhat right, we both however happened to have decent hands. His being a good bit decenter.(KJ) (yes I made up a word!) I asked (ok duggle, begged) the poker gods for a Q but got a K on the river instead. Jordan took the lead from there and never looked back.
SO thanks to HOY for hosting the Monday game. Due to my bit of success at it, it has become my 2nd favorite!
On the homefront I was able to empty more of the attic last night. There is very little left up there now and should be able to finish up tonight. It looks like the WWDN is out for me tonight as my Mother and sister inlaws are coming over to help pack. Also it just happens to be my 8th wedding anniversary. I gave my wife a house, what did you get yours? I should be able to post some pics of the house next week. I don't want to jinx myself too much cause there are things that could still fall through, but as far as I'm concerned, we're in!

I don't want to jinx myself too much cause there are things that could still fall through, but as far as I'm concerned, we're in!

Thurs AUG 17
Allrighty, I can take a little break...
I am at full stress standby mode now. My back has gotten a little better in the last couple of days. I'm stretching and giving it a little exercise. Instead of sitting infront of a computer for 13-15 hours a day, I've honed it down to 7-10. It does make a difference I think. Especially for my posture.
I took the week off and started getting the crap together for the big move. Yes, we have a contract, we have somewhere to move!!!! Now I just need to figure out how we can afford it. But that's a trivial point.
I had almost forgotten the nightmare of moving. Going through all of the crap that has gathered for the last 3 years, and re-packing, throwing away, cleaning up. The kid stuff is the worst too. We have so much useless kid crap! I look at most of it and say to myself "now why did we decide to keep that?" Who here is interested in a 6 year old USED potty training seat?? Any takers??
All bitching aside, it sure is nice to have a purpose to move. We were VERY close to the realization of living with my in-laws for an extended period of time. Nothing wrong with them by any means, but I've already had enough of thatthis year.
On to some poker content. I don't understand myself sometimes. I have played some aggro-donk weirdness in the last few blogger tourneys. I called an allin last night from Jordan with KQ sooted WTF? This is after taking a bluff to the river when DNASTY can't let go of AK with the K hitting the river....nice play Brian! Did you think the 4th bet was going to push him off??? ugh. As fate would have it I get AA and beat with JQ to end the misery.
So I took a calm relaxing walk around the house, drank a glass of water a muscle relaxer and a ibuprofen. Yeah, now you REALLY think I'm hooked on pills right? Wrong. I moved about half of my attic into the dining room prior to the --mook--, after taking apart the kids swing set and shuffling the trash to the curb. I was in pain and my back was spasmastic.
Anywho....I sat down and fired up a $25 2-table. I vow to play close to the vest but find myself in a troublesome hand against someone who had me beat. I had raise 4x pre-flop in SB with JTs
to my surprise the somewhat tight BB calls and the other 2 limpers drop off.. (I was really surprised at the amount of limps at this level.) Flop comes up with blanks and I bet out another 4xbb followed by a smooth call. I put him on mid -pairs. Turn brings an ace and I have to follow my gut here. I put half of my chips in and get another call. I'm fucked and I know it...however I am SURE this guy is weak...I JUST KNOW IT. I get a jack on the river and push. BB folds with only T300 behind...wow....I settled down after this hand and pretty much cruised into the money. At the same time I had nearly doubled my buy in at NL25 and the drugs were kicking. So I bailed and had a pretty good night afterall.

hectic
One word to describe my life right now. Work is hell, I'm trying to get a house to live in, pack, clean up, play with kids, talk to wife, rest my aching back and shoulder, sleep, and play poker. boo hoo. That's pretty much the pecking order too.
I had no business joining the mook last night, but I just couldn't miss it. I got all my chips in on a flopped set of 8's only to go against a flopped set of Jacks AND a flopped set of 3's crrrrazy. I'm glad surf was able to put my chips to good use and cash.
If everything goes according to plan I should have a contract on a house before the weekend. Cross your collective fingers please.

I got kicked hard in the junk early when I ran a straight into a FH, then couldnt catch with AKo. Got as far down as 1k then built back to just over 5k. Lost half my stack calling allin with TT on a 9 hi board. Villain has nines.
Patience patience patience.
3 hands later this happens:

action was on him preflop, he called a significant portion of his stack on AJo

9+4.5=200???
Two Buy-ins and an add on was all it took to get into the top 25 of a 523 person field. Not only that, but when the tourney was over, I was 2nd in chips.
Part of me says, damn, I wish it was a cash tourney, but another part says, screw it.... why not me?
So, as long as everything goes well this morning, I'll join ~2000 of PokerStars finest in today's Million Guaranteed.
Three keys in last nights game that I hope fall into today.
1. Patience - with a little cajooling (thanks KJ), I was able to tighten up a bit after getting a nice stack.
2. Early chip lead - About 5 or 6 hands in I limped with 33 and got my set on the flop, I turned it into a full house and took out 2 others. This enabled me to be more selective, and also to cover about 75% of the field.
3. Luck - I can only think of one time that I pushed when I was behind. I had TT and had a mid-sized stack covered. Flop came with 2 low cards and a queen. I was first to act with 3 behind me and pushed. I got called with AQ and caught a T on the turn. 2 hands later I caught Aces and took another good stack out.
The one fly in the ointment is that I'm at work right now, if my project runs overtime, I'm screwed. So stop bothering me and let me get back to it.

NOT having fun?
Played a little Limit OH8 tourney last night. 1-Table 5.50 SNG. It really amazes me how bad people are at this game. I have played larger OH8 events and have cashed a couple of times, a handful of smaller tourneys, and a few cash tables.
Omaha is a complex game, and most people play it just like holdem. It seems in my limited experience that players at low stakes OH8 fail to make adjustments for the greater rates of flushes and straights that come out. I've had more than a few players take 2 pair to the river on straight and/or flush boards. I was able to take control of the table when we were down to 6. I swooped with the wheel turned into straight to 6. 4 handed I was able to bully the table into submission by check raising whenever possible it seems to be fairly easy to suck out another bet there.
During the same time I watched a OH8 table on FT with Juanda, Seidel, Bloch, and Stuart Patterson. Inspiring, as the rake on most hands were more than the entire table stakes of my game.
After winning the tourney I felt good enough to donate to the bloggers at WWDN:NOT. Around the 3rd level my hammer got sucked out on by sooted slick. ugh... donkeys.
I felt jipped by the NOT, so I started up a 25/NL table and got joined by guin, darval, astin , butch, jordan, Kat and MHG. I lost a few bucks early against a random big stack at the table, but ran into some good cards and left up 2 buy ins. yippee. Sorry I stacked you twice Astin, but you asked for it. :)
I'll be busy as hell this weekend, so see you on the virtual felt on Monday or Tuesday!
