who's your DADI

I sucked ad DADI. I was at the inlaws house and out of my 'zone'. Then of course some donk catches a flush (K5c?) on the river vs my 88 hee haw. So I get home to watch the end of DADI, congrats to ScottMcMilla.

I 4-tabled for a bit, 2 on titan (+40) 2 on stars. One of which I sat down with Garthmeister and Mook. Eventually i closed titan down. and came in second in the 2 table SNG with my brother(5th). It's amazing how ABC poker works somtimes. I was focused on the 25NL table, chatting it up screwing with the 'tourists' I played the SNG straight ...until the following hand.

Keep in mind I was fairly lubricated at this point, so my memory is a bit hazy.

We are 6 handed and I get 69off. I decide to bluff the blind about 3x and he calls. Flop comes A65 and I bet (800?) at it. BB calls. I KNOW this guy isnt smart enough to slow play a big hand, so I put him on Ax. turn brings a 7 and I double my bet....again he calls....ugh. I cant believe I'm gonna have to lay this down. Then the beautiful 8 comes on the river, I push and the donkey calls with A2, hilarious.

I wish I had thought of taking a screenshot of the blogger table. In attendance was Surflexus, smokkee, Boobielover, Joe Speaker, Miami Don, jjok, iakarus, mookie99, garthmeister, and iggy. I'm too lazy to link yall up..sorry.. Somehow I racked up to about 80 there but managed to donate most of my stack to the blogfather and his made nut flush. Not that he needs it. It was an enormous amount of fun.

Today, I'm just trying to stay awake and not breathe on anyone.

I'd like to add....

A few things.

1. I'm too lazy to just edit my last post. So I just add another.
2. I didn't link up CC on the last post. If you are not reading his blog daiy, bad things will happen to you. Bad, ugly awful things.
3. I was reading Mookieand he reminded me of a funny hand involving me and surf and an aborted HOY.

I have JQ in the cutoff and I call a small raise from surf. AAx comes off, check, check, check. Q on the turn check check bet by me. Smooth call, fold.
Surf checks again, and I attempt to hoy him but I miss by 100 chips leaving him with 101. Unfortunately i was betting into a made set. On the positive side, I inadvertantly invented the lol hoy. Best part is that surf used it again on the very next hand. We all had a hearty chuckle. You can thank me later for sharing.

Irony has a way of being ironical.

In a deja-vu moment, I had scrapped my way back in the mook when CC and his mountian of chips joined the table. I had no notes, so this is a little fuzzy, but the blinds are 50/100 I think. CC raises up to ~1000 and I find Queens, we are both just a few seats behind the button. I put a few more chips on to discourage any callers and he CC hoy's me. Leaving 2 chips - csquared, get it....

AAAAnyway. I go in the tank here. I cant see him risking half his stack on crap, then he says he will show me. ugh. I put him on AA KK AK or JJ. When he says he will show me, I have to consider the hammer, though I don't know whether CC would play it. My mind races back to JUST LAST NIGHT when them bitches kicked my ass from the other side. I believe he wants a call here, and I just can't lay the queens down. I suppose I can pat myself on the back for making a good read, he showed a sooted slick, and the bullet flops.

Thats poker baby.

big lick.

I wasn't terribly motivated to play the WWDN last night, but wanted to try and follow up on a good win from MATH. I was chipping up fairly nicely until Hacker59 shows up at the table with a pocket full of queens. I laid down AK to an all in on a ragged flop (he showed queens). Then called a second time getting beaten by the bitches again. Such is life.

I added the otis code on the side, if I knew how to add a file to blogger I'd post a link, but you can view my source and pick the code out there. Do a search for FeedBurner.

I really was lost when the queen hit here. S.t.B was playing like mid-pairs here. When he raises my 350 bet, I have 500 left and no chance in my mind. I think I played my hand like A(KJQ), so I'm either dead to a kicker or a set in my mind. I eventually make the crying call hoping he's betting a missed set or Ax. I think I got really lucky this hand.

I had to laugh here:

First of all, I knew I wanted to see a flop here, if any hi cards come out, I can be done and conserve. Anything else I will go to war against most likely. Miami thought I was capable of laying down a big pair there or he thought I was drawing. Either way, I felt fairly sure this was my hand from the beginning. I don't think I misplayed the Jacks at all. Don wasn't so sure.

MiamiDon said, "you got me skidoo"
MiamiDon said, "although ballsy call with only JJ"

I got a big pot with a flopped nut flush and another when I 2-paired my JT.

Eventually Don caught back up and took Sox out, when we got even heads up, he offered a deal and I took it. It was late enough for me. We actually played pretty hard for a few hands, him taking on the AG roll again, whittling me down. I evened up again w/AQ on a scary board, but I could never get a lead on the DON. I made a stand with a flopped 2-pair waffles hand(24o) vs a flopped heart flush....oh well.

hoy palloy

I hadn't intended on playing the hoy last night, however I logged on about 20-30 min before it started and made a deal with myself. If I could make the $20 on a cash table then I would have permission to play the hoy. About 5 minutes before the tourney, I limped with 77 into an unraised pot. The flop comes 7A4 with two hearts. I cold call a half-pot bet and call and the 4 comes down. Lead better takes another stab and I push. He has A4 and is dominated. So I join the MATH.

I ended up taking Firecond. Don and I made a deal when even, so we battled for a bit before I went down with 2-pair vs. a flopped flush.

I'm going to go through the hand histories and pick out a few to discuss in a bit. I'm sure you can hardly wait.

I'm sure you can hardly wait.

pulling in the reigns

I sure was feeling frisky last night. More than usual, now I can see a pattern forming, maybe I'll actually do something about it.

I had a little too much fun in the mook last night. I played the tourist 2 times in the span of minutes. both times I got my money in with a set of sevens, to get beat by a flush. I felt like I had a pretty good grasp of the table. I just got a little too squirly. I think this is what happened in the WWDN as well. I hit a good string of cards and pots, and expect the trend will continue.

My erratic play spilled over to the other tables as I was at one time up 100 at PS and down 50 at Titan. I ended up down 20 at titan and up 30 or so at PS

Can't sneeze at the results since I was playing terribly loose agg.

Also if Poker Tracker keeps telling me to stay at .50/1 9 handed, why can't I listen?

Simple, I'm an action donkey who likes to clickey the buttons and see the little chippies move across the table.

shooting straight....to the bottom

Played great in the WWDN last night. Early on I scratched out a straight vs drewspop's set. I used my chips well I think, taking out smaller stacks with slight edges and stealing a little more than usual. I was chipleader for a good bit of time.

Down to 4 tables, I decide to tighten up a little too late as I moved down to ~8th position. The hand that broke me was my A9o vs 99. It was a questionable call, I agree. But at the time I felt I had the odds to call. I didn't take notes of the hand since I was 3 tabling at the time (dummy).

I get my ace on the flop and the case nine comes on the river. Justice prevails I guess. I was near last place and didn't recover. Now I can't even remember the hand I went out on (13th). I think AJo vs a small pair. I was very disturbed by the way I played towards the end and my inability to adjust. I was just on cruise control for too long I guess.

What's weird is that when I switch to a more conservative style, I get killed. I guess I don't know how to play quality hands and pick off steals.

I might try to play the mook tonight if I get enough work done. I have lots of crap to do if I'm going to move in the next 6 weeks.

Kudos to KAT for making 3rd from next-to-last when I went out.

AHOY

Played in Hoy's 'home game last night.

My highlight was playing the hammer and getting the hammer flop. Surf couldn't complete his draw and I got 2 pair...awesome.

Then I donk off about 3/4 of my chips with TT vs JJ. Final hand I demonstrate the Hoy for someone with AJo.. Hoy himself raises with 77. I flop the J but he completes a runner runner runner straight. UNPOSSIBLE.

Meanwhile I fail to money in a $10 rebuy at Titan (only used the add-on) I never really get any cards. I push with something stupid to get ousted by the tourist. ....ugh. I know I should crush this competition, so I'll play some more there tonight. I've done well on the cash games there, but have given $ back on the tourneys.

So I'm about to hit the sack, but I'm waiting on my new iPod to update. I fire PS back up and troll for bloggers. I find jjok, slb, and Waffles playing 10 handed and watch them awhile. The chat was hilarious as slb and waffles were tapping the glass. Several players were trading jabs, donk, moron, etc donkalarious.

Anywho, after jjok busts out with a beautiful play of the hammer. (i told you not to try it at home) I decide to join in the fray.

First hand I'm dealt AQo...being new to the table I check.
Thanks to waffles for saving the hand.

...interesting play. I must admit it was a little hard to call TPTK there, but given the way the hand came out, I was only afraid of the straight draw.

Needless to say, I decided to call it a nite after donking a few bucks back to the table. Nowhere to go but down after doubling up the first hand you play.

Meet the bloggers

Played poker every night this weekend, the only good results were playing with people that actually know what they are doing. AKA the Atlanta bloggers who met at BrainMc's house. As mentioned the suspects were Rags, Surflexus, BrianMc and myself. chipperdh was a no show cause he's afraid of our mad skillz yo.

It was cool to actually put faces to virtual entities, and I look forward to more live events in the future. The highlight of my night was luckboxing 2 pair with KJ vs AJ in the second match. That hand broke mowenumdown's momentum and gave me lots of chips to push the others around. My second favorite was pulling the obligitory hammer in the first match.

A big thanks goes out to BrianMc for opening his home, and having a really nice doggy.

All right, what an incredible amount of crap, right?

I believe I mentioned before that we had just recently taken the house off the market. Well, we get a message over the weekend that some woman wants to take a look at the place. The wife and I had heard that enough times in the past months not to get excited, in fact, quite the opposite. My first reaction was, fuck that, our house is off the market..and the place is definitely in no shape to be shown. Unfortunately the wife knows the woman, a recent divorcee' who used to live in the 'hood, but had to sell her house in the divorce. She wanted to move back in, and our house was one of the few she could afford, and would want to live in.

We decide to let her look at the place in its current condition, with the knowledge that the floors would eventually get finished and we really didn't live like pigs. There's no way were going to clean anything for this woman. If she wants it, she'll have to see through the crap.

You can probably see where this is going by now. She puts an offer in which is more than the house was on the market for (and before the floors). What's weird is, I really didn't like it. The simple fact is, the house looked so horrible before we gave up on selling, that no one could see past the floors. (Yes, they were that bad) If we had gotten an offer even in the ballpark of our asking price, we would have been jumping for joy, now it was kind of disappointing. We had totally given up on selling the place, and were now focused on making it something we wanted to be in for the next 3-10 years.

So now we've got to finish this house and make it pretty for SOMEONE ELSE, then find our new house.

The carpet installers were obviously in a hurry.

We discussed the logistics of the carpet install with the contractor, he assured us that all the furniture could stay put and we wouldn't have to worry about a thing.
WRONG
When I got back to inspect the installation, there was a PILE of shit in the upstairs bathroom. I don't mean stacked toys and clothes no no no... I mean there was a PILE of our kids toys, clothes, misc. In the bathroom, bathtub to be more specific. This was just too much for me. I had to laugh...it was that or strangle someone, and last time I strangled someone I got in a little trouble.

Something happened..........I just totally let go...all the anger, the stress, the worry, just poured out my feet. I don't know how to describe it, but it was the most carefree moment I have experienced in awhile. I calmly set to the task of cleaning the things out of the bathtub and returning (most of) it back to the rightful place. Turns out this was a good reason to throw away a bunch of unused things that had been gathering dust 24 hours beforehand. A couple of hours later and the upstairs was, for the most part, put back together.

The last couple of days things have slowly started coming back together. I have done some repairs marked on the home inspector's report. I'm calling in my cousin to look at the HVAC, and we have to call an electrician and a handyman to do the things I can't (don't want to) do. Taking care of all these things have just made me more attached to the house. We really turned it into a nice place, a home anyone could be proud of.......as soon as I tackle the yard...ugh.

So there's my silly 3-day narrative on the SAGA OF THE FLOORS, as it will be called for prosperity sake.

I' played some 25NL last night and doubled up in 4 hands. That was enough for me. I actually relaxed in front of the tube watching Baseball and Basketball. Beer definitely tastes better in a relaxed state, no question.

Looking forward to meeting Brain, SURFLEXUS,Mowenumdown and chipperdh ... .... in person tomorrow night...Its a bit of a haul for me, but it should be fun.

Catching up pt2

Alright, I know you have been waiting with bated breath to hear about my house. It's so compelling.

So....Where was I ?

The morning of the install, we hang out to check out the crew and see some test stain on the floors on the refinished kitchen. We pick the color that we liked. And the lead installer and another dude start having a conversation. They're speaking Spanish, and I pick up a few words, then I look over at my wife and she has a really pissed look on her face....she caught all of it. There are 2 issues it seems.

First, there is not enough wood to do the job, they are about 100SQft off. Second, this isn't the correct floor. Evidently the only way to get natural wood installed is for it to be nailed. DUH. Problem is we have a concrete subfloor, no basement! (why we are looking to move in the first place) When the main contractor came through the first time, he noted the concrete, we talked about it, it was not an issue. Problem is he ordered the cheapest wood he could find to get our business, failing to comprehend it couldn't be installed. Houston, we have a problem.

So we truck ourselves, to the flooring place to find out what they are going to do about it. Sure I'll take a day off, no problem. After moving up to the co-owner we negotiated unfinished prefab floors for the same cost as the natural wood. Funny thing, natural wood is actually cheaper than fabricated, go figure.

Now that most of our worldly possessions are piled up in the garage, we go ahead to the inlaws. Fast forward 4 days and we can come check out our new floors. My wife gets there in the afternoon, and she calls me fuming.

Let me say here something about my wife, don't fuck with her. She will chew you up and spit you out. (Trust me) She is way to smart and way to opinionated to let anything by. There are many times I get caught in 'enforcer' mode when she has laid the groundwork. I'm the good cop, she'll rip your heart out and show it to you. Maybe that's a little strong, but I'm trying to make a point here.

I bolt home to survey the damage, and the first thing I think is "these guys aren't done" but they are... My wife has already been on the phone with these people 400 times by this point, so I fire up the good old boy charm and speak to the owner of the store.

"Hey Jimmy, this is Brian. I wanted to let you know that we've come to the house and the floors look awesome!" (Wife burning holes in my brain with her look) " I was just wondering when the installers were planning to finish the job".(fire off) I won't go over the laundry list of imperfections and instances of half assedness we relayed, but after out conversation we had the installer out in about an hour. The problems were eventually fixed (3 more days) and we were ready for the carpet install......or were we?

More later...yes there's more.

Hey, just in case you were wondering, I officially suck at poker. Just one losing session really, I can handle it, but god do I punish myself sometimes with stupid moves.

Catching up

Ok, I'll catch up on things happening in my feeble little life.

House:

As I hinted at earlier, we had some major work done to del casa de skidoo. We have had our house on the market for about 8 months and had one Lowball offer and one semi serious lowball offer. Ms. Skidoo stared school, so I had to pickup some slack on kid and house duties. I'm a lazy son of a gun, so I did just enough to make sure the kids made it to school relatively clean, keep the laundry done, and the house looking like humans exist there.

Stressing out about showing the house to all of the clueless Real Estate agents, yokels looking for desperate sellers, and the all too frequent no-show is NOT something I wanted to keep on the list. So we pulled up the signs and decided we would stay in the house for at least the next 3-4 years till the wife is out of school. In order to do so, we needed new floors. The carpet we had survived 7 years and 3 families; 6 kids, 4 dogs..etc etc. It looked like trampled sand.

Our first house had beautiful natural oak hardwoods that I personally refinished (6 coats of polyurethane!!). We really liked the look with our furniture. We have lots of dark mahogany wood, leather and red accents. Its all the wife's doing, she has a great eye for design. Its a good thing we're not loaded, cause our house would be chock full of accents, paintings, candlesticks etc etc. I'm a minimalist, I really don't like fancy frilly things, but guys do all sorts of stuff to make sure the woman in his life is happy. When the wife is happy, I'm happy, simple. So we floor shop and find a place nearby that will replace all the floors downstairs, except the kitchen which needed to be refinished. Then re-carpet the upstairs. Great!

Their suggestion is to go out of town for Memorial Day, and when we get back (4-5 days later), everything will be done !!. Sounds great, but the wife needs to study, she needs every waking minute to study...jeez. There is no way in hell I would go back to school, I have no discipline.

So her folks invite us to stay at their place, which is incredibly nice. I get along well with her folks, they love their grandchildren and take great pleasure at spoiling the crap out of them. I wish I could make the typical in-law jokes here, but I can't. They bent over backwards to help us and always will. I couldn't have gotten luckier on the inlaw front, unless her dad's name was Brunson.

This is turning into a short novel, I'll continue on the floor saga later.

I had a nice little session last night played a $11-45P, $15-18P, and a $25-9P. Got a huge lead early in the 2-table when my Kings cracked 2 slicks....what are the odds? I got crippled later with QQ vs a flopped set of Jacks, and went out when my Jacks were cracked by ATsooted. Hung around in the 45P to 10th place, never got anything going. Took down the SNG. All the while I sweated Waffles from the rail on a $3 Rebuy satellite. Good times..good times.

don't try this at home

Never Play the hammer on a cash table.

never is a long time. I'd been at this table awhile, it was weak/tight.....I tried to see if I could stir up some action, and got it at the right time. I'm playing all over the map right now. .25/50 - 2/4 limit and .10/.25 - 1/2 NL. All I have to show for this month is even money so far.

Anywho, here's a fun one:

RandomDonkey: $2.25
UTG: $17.35

Pre-flop: (6 players) 23skidoo is UTG+1 with :2s :7s
UTG folds, 23skidoo raises to $1, CO folds, Button calls.

Flop: :4h :jh :9d ($0, 3 players)
Button checks, 23skidoo bets $1.25, Button calls.

moovin

I've decided to stop thinking about poker.

What I mean to say is, that ivy lost something. There is a feel to the game that I have lost. I've disassociated myself from the game and have become a computer. I'm predictable, dependable (for the most part) and mechanical. The only time I have 'fun' is while playing blogger events.

My tournament game has gone to shit since I started focusing on cash play. All I see is dollars and cents. I don't play poker for money, if I did, I'd be a poor motherfucker. I play because I like it. If that makes me a donkey so be it. I used to be an above average tournament player (really! stop laughing) Monetary goals mean nothing to me in poker anymore (since I'm such a baller). I like to play, I like to get the feel for a table, I like to execute a convincing bluff and a wise laydown.

Lord, give me the strength to change what I can, the patience to accept what I cannot, and the knowledge to know the difference between the two.

I wasn't kidding a few posts back, poker has changed me and changed for me. I'm not sure if I like it, but I'm pretty sure I like me, I realize I am a fair poker player, striving to come to a mutual understanding with the game (if there is such a thing). I want to be at peace, and be free to play without the boundaries of 'correct' play. I play for me for now on. Thanks for stopping by.

Oh and go to Poker Source and get some really cool deals dammit, the link is right over there -------->>>>

I need food

so does this blog.

I've been stewing on a lot of stuff lately. There's a whole lot of shit going on in my life right now. Spiraling out....you know the feeling. not out of control, but it feels like picking up laundry from the bedroom floor. Every time I bend over, another sock falls on the floor.

I can start with poker I guess. Felt good in the WWdn until I decided TT was a good hand to push with after 2 calls and a raise. I had to know I was behind, right? id10t

Mook was much the same last night except I stayed aggressive until we were about 3-tabled. Made a marginal call with ATc vs QQ when I thought that the 10th player had just gone out. (it paid 9) Caught an ace of course, and a ten to boot. Made a bad move w/KJo and had to fold to jjok's push. Then played like the paper thin weak-tight player I am until I had to push with K7o.

Tournaments for the most part have been a complete waste of time. I will lose the occasional buy in at 50nl but for the most part its like second nature to win. *knocks wood* I get easily bored sometimes and make dumb moves, yes, but its pretty easy to cover up.

Anywho, I suck at talking about (and playing) poker so I'll keep it to a minimum.

I started writing this at 10AM it is now 4pm. This is how my days are lately, and at night, if I'm not relaxing, herding children, or playing poker, then I am asleep. Writing is something I have to try and want to do. Being busy doesn't help.

Maybe tonight I'll take a break and write some stuff about the house, my in-laws, and other things that keep me from being the self centered bastard I truly am inside.
