Living and dying by donkatude.

One a those days, huh. Well, a wiser fella than myself once said, sometimes you eat the bar and sometimes the bar, well, he eats you. - The Stranger

I had one of those games last night, some questionable moves paid off and I was in great shape down to 2 tables in the mook when this hand went down.

Here I am in the BB with twoblackaces and a chip lead. Talk about your dream scenario, then I get 2 players pushing in front of me. Yipeeeee.

Here are the results.

Brilliant!

So there ya go, sometimes you live by the donk and sometimes you die by it.

Someone at the table suggested that hand was repayment for bad beating KK with K9. Does anyone else share the opinion that flops have a memory and likes to repay a player for inflicting a beat upon someone else??

I'll be spending another weekend at the baseball field watching the all-stars try to win their way to a State tournament. Wish us luck!

You guys be careful out there.

Foxes, Fishies, and Flying

Hello again folks!

I'm gently trying to urge myself to be productive here on my little space in the internets.

As most of you know, once you take some time off from anything it's pretty hard to jump back into the game. Since writing for me is mostly catharsis, I need to push ahead when I'm feeling blogged down or blah.

Right now I'm not particularly motivated to write other than for the sake of writing, so I will just plug away and you folks will just have to bear with me.

I finally got around to downloading Firefox 3, and I've been tweaking it a little here and there. I don't know if it is actually faster. It does feel that way, but possibly that is because I deleted about 6 add-ons that I wasn't really using. I've downloaded my third theme now and can't find one better than the Default so far. I imagine a lot of developers are still tweaking things for FF3. So does anyone have any suggestions for add-ons or themes?

Add-ons I use: Adblock Plus, Firebug, Delicious Bookmarks ( del.icio.us/23skidoo ), GooglePreview, Greasemonkey, Hyperwords, Scrapbook, Stumbleupon, Sxipper.

I flung come cards over at PokerStars a good bit last week and luckboxed into some decent sized scores for myself. I'd like to get some $$$ off there and don't want to wait the 15-?? days to get a check, so if anyone wants to trade Paypal or FT $ let me know. It's really weird how I can do so well on one site and burn $ at another. There must be something tied to full moons and the mating rituals of the West African Spotted Drunken Lemur.

Its time to FLY.....

Next week I'll be back in NY. I'm hoping the NYC crew finds the time to get together and sling some cards on Monday or Tuesday. At least you guys know I'm not afraid to donate by now.....

The week after that is OKIE VEGAS. I'm once again very excited for this years festivities not excluding eating a chicken fried steak as big as my head , check-raising locals, and passing out on the nearest chair (doh).

Thanks for stoppng by and see you (you know who you are) soon!!!

The weeds.

I've finally made it out of the weeds....

I was a waiter and bartender for a good period of my 20's and early 30's. I worked at crappy Bar and Grill's to Five Star resorts. In all paces there comes a period of time when your demand for time out measures your ability to give it.

A waiter can react in two different ways to getting in the weeds.

1) Get buried.
2) Focus.

I'm not gonna lie, I've been buried before. It is usually not tied to a problem with my abilities to cope, but correlates to situations beyond my control. (slow kitchen, too many tables at the same time, demanding customers....)

As I learned to be a waiter, I learned tricks to getting myself out of the weeds. The best formula is to focus. Draw a map in your head and get there, don't let anything get in your way. If something trips you up you just push a little harder.

So the last three weeks I had a few projects converge upon me, hectic family schedule, travel, and the inevitable crowbar thrown in for good measure.

Without going in to too many boring details, I have emerged unscathed. I just had to put my head down and keep plugging away. Ticking off the bullet points, testing, fixing, breaking, fixing, testing..... you get the picture.

So this is a long intro to say, in case you have missed my witty banter over the past 4-5 weeks, sorry I've been away and I will try to be a better blogger.

Since you've last seen your hero he's gone through several challenging work and non work related episodes, including:

  • Traveling all over mid-Georgia with my All-Star Baseball playing son. This team won't be going to the world series, but it has been a good experience for him.
  • Working till 4AM one morning I fall asleep at the wheel driving home. I miraculously only hurt my car. 4 New wheels: $600, Tie Rods, tires, and misc broken stuff: $1800; My health: priceless.
  • Flamed out in the BBT3 TOC. I got too many marginal cards and tried to play them.
  • The wife has once again joined the workforce. She got a great offer to work for the gubment until she finishes off her Law degree. This complicates day to day stuff as the kids will go to 'summer camp' during the day until school starts, but they seem pretty keen on the idea of doing stuff rather than going to the pool everyday.
  • Took a 3 day trip to NY and got to see nary a blogger :(. I had precious little time on this trip, so it was probably for the best.
Thats about covers the major stuff. I'll be taking a short day today and I'll get a day off tomorrow to drive to south Georgia and attend my family reunion. My family reunion is akin to a blogger weekend with less cards and more food and booze.

I'm heading out to NY again 6/30-7/2 and hopefully can meet up with a representative or two from the NY crew then. I'll send you guys an email soon since I got such a raucous response last time.

You guys be careful out there.
