Embarrasing...

I had to turn the TV off watching the Vick: Town Forum the other day. Its embarrasing to live in the same city as the people who would stand up and support this guy. Then THIS comes along and I am just befuddled. I honestly can't believe someone could be as ignorant as Michael Vick.

It's truly sad at this point, he has become the next Mike Tyson rather than the man who could redefine the quarterback position. sad sad sad.... You know its reached epic proportions when Terrence Moore has left your corner.

It's a sad state of affairs when you start to agreee with this guy:

Moving along, I'm in the middle of a bad run on FT, and am staying a head on the little play I have at PS. Here's a screenshot of my spreadsheets in case you are interested.

Wednesday and Thursday, I felt the old aggro-donk bug creeping in and taking over. I should have taken a break and didn't. Bad news

I also broke my bankroll limitations for the MOOK. People love calling down crap in the MOOK and I played more aggressively than I should have.

At least recently I'm becoming aware of my mental state when I'm in a tourney, now I just need to adjust my play against my own stupidity sometimes.

I hope you all have a great weekend, we'll see ya soon.

Good Anger/Bad Anger and the MATH

Good Anger:

Bad Anger:

Meltdown

There's a myriad of reasons players get mad at the poker table. What a player does with his/her anger is central to successfully focusing on optimal play.

Mike Gundy had several reasons to be mad, he was protecting his players (a 21 year old 'kid') and lashing out at the media. Gundy accomplished something though. He sent a message to his team and to the media. I believe in the long run Gundy solidified his bond with, or hold over, his team. When playing a team sport, adopting a bunker mentality is key. It has to be US VS THEM. The stronger 'US' is, the more resilient and dominate 'US' can be over 'THEM'. Gundy put himself in front of his team, refocused the attention and built his teams trust all in one brilliantly insane blowup.

DeAngelo Hall is a punk. He has always been a punk and he will always be a punk. He continually blows himself up, just to get beaten or to beat himself. Hall's list of missteps is becoming large, and for all his talent and bravado theres a scared little classroom bully laying beneath his surface. Sunday night the Falcons actually had a chance to win their first game of the season. The defense had broken down a bit from the first 2 games, but Joey Harrington was showing glimpses of a guy who could pass for an actual NFL quarterback.

Hall was playing great, he had covered Steve Smith all game and held him without a catch. One little misstep derailed his entire game, and lost the momentum for his team. Steve Smith finally won, he got into Hall's head and Hall totally lost it. He cost his team an additional 30 yards being an idiot, and turned a long FG kick into a touchdown. Way to go dude, you completely screwed your team.

In most instances, anger does you no good. Anger is the result of a lack of discipline and focus. If you can channel your anger to produce positive results instead of verbal and physical tirades, then it is possible to always think clearly and make the proper decisions.

Yesterday afternoon I stepped a little outside my bankroll requirements and played a 2 table token tourney. I had an opportunity to play the MATH and I wanted to take it.

I got my token fairy easily, then sparked up FT about 9PM. I decided to play a 5.50 t-table to warm up, and took it down. Freeroll!

I played a bit loose as I tend to do in blogger games. I sucked out big time on HOY fairly early on so I decided to take some screenshots.

HOY played this hand perfectly against me. I call a small/medium raise with soooted jackking and flopped a gutshot. He knew my range was wide, he set the trap and I fell right in. Full Tilt RNG had other ideas.

A few hands later I catch him stealing. Standard mook re-raise.

Here I am overplaying mid pairs. I do this way to much and need to recognize the signs. Maloney was screaming top-tier and I couldn't lay em down.

Again, I overplay nines, this time it works out as I put HOY on a pretty wide range.

Wwonka was desperate and I got a BB special.

Joshua (Raising Cayne's roomie) raises 3x in the SB, I call my sooted gappers. I push post flop with oesd - 3rd pair. Thoughts on this one??

I think I was ahead here, the 4x raise may have been a bit risky though.

Fuel raises ~3x preflop, I smoof call, so does Byron. I push the oesd, Byron already had it, IGHN. double bubble.

Congrats to bdiddie or jim, whoever won.

The results show.

I hate to break it to you, but 90% of the time I see a blogger posting results, stats and stuff, I skip it. So if you'd rather not analyze some results with me, I completely understand. There isn't a more self serving, banal subject (to me at least) than results.

There's your disclaimer, feel free to move along.

As I said, I started last week with 2 deposits on 2 sites. 100 on FT and 200 on PS.

I am starting this journey at the most donkish of limits.

I want to focus on MY play, getting reads and acting on them.

Starting on stars Tuesday with 200.12
I began with a 1.20 one table SNG and took 1st for 3.30 profit.
I switch up a bit and play a 3.40 HORSE SNG taking 3rd for 1.40 profit.

I'm pretty sure I'm a better player than 80-90% of these players especially in non hold'em games. I think I will vary my games at these levels in order to raise my EV.

Next up on Tuesday was a 45 person 1.10 OH/8 game. I went out in 18th when I bricked up on the river with 47 outs. OK actually I had 2 pair and a flush draw, the river paired the board and my opponent called all the way with AA.

Last up on day one was a Stud MTT. I played nearly three hours but only managed 28th place for an .82c profit.

So I gained a little over 2% of my bankroll on day one. I keep having to remind myself to get my head right and focus on my play and not the money involved. I wanted to start myself at the micro-ist of micro limits so I can keep myself in check.

Day 2 on FT, I played all NLHE games, some headsup, the mook and 1-table sngs.
Besides the HU, things didn't work out, I really hated going out in the middle of the pack in the mook with KK vs AK.

I managed to make my money back in a 2 table 5+.50 coming in second for $27
and ending up at 106.81.

So there's my first couple of sessions. I'm keeping my head over water and have mostly forgotten I'm playing for peanuts. Its a good exersize so far and I hope I can keep my head on straight.

Stuff I missed...

Despite titling my last post correctly I forgot to mention our little foray to the Dave Matthews/Allman Brothers show at Piedmont Park.

The wife got tickets way back in August when it was a conservancy show selling 20K tickets. It turned into the largest outdoor show at Piedmont Park ever at well over 50K souls attending.

It is no secret that I am not a crowd person. I don't like them, never have. There is just too much random stupidity that goes on when massive amounts of people get together. These things I'd rather eschew.

Our plans were somewhat simple. We were to meet my sister in law (Stacy) at her place and go from there, then meet Rachel's law school friends in the park. Best laid plans.

My idea was to drive down to my office and park for free, then walk the 8 or so blocks to the park, simple enough. NOOOOOO

Stacy and her boyfriend ( a law school friend as well, Jerry) insisted we take the train. They convinced us that it would be much simpler, take less time, provide less frustration, etc. We discuss our options amidst a cocktail or 2 and they just wouldn't back down.

Fine, we take the train downtown, get out of the station, and have already lost Stacy and Jerry. They had to go potty.

While waiting, we ran into a group of people from our neighborhood, they were headed to TAP, a bar up the street, to have a few beers before the show. I immediately wanted to abandon Jerry and Stacy...not to be.

We proceeded to walk up the street with Stacy and Jerry behind us and Stacy spotted a cab. She said "hey a cab" and flagged it down. Keep in mind we are about 6 blocks from the entrance to the park. I say to my wife, "theres no way in hell I'm getting in that cab, its ridiculous". Luckily she agreed.

We tried to convince Stacy to let the cab go, but she hopped right in. We stood our ground but poor Jerry had no choice but to hop in or lose his date. They pulled away and were not to be found for the rest of the night.

Another block up the street and what do you know? There's TAP! score!!

We find our neighborhood friends on the opposite side of the bar chatting it up and drinking beers. We joined in the fray and put down a few beers, somehow a jager bomb (or 3) was handed in my direction.

Finally we decided to head towards the concert, it seems no one in the group was terribly interested in catching all of the Allman Brothers. We wandered through the park, and I started to break off to where I knew the stage would be. The rest of the group had other plans and were headed off through the back side of the park. I could not convince them to come my way, so we caught up.

Rachel had to stop and hit the can before we went in and the rest of the group kept right on walking. Oh well. I waited dutifully by the restroom and we regrouped to go inside.

The place was absolute chaos, people were everywhere, and I just plowed through, picking my spots and heading back to the front of the park. (where we would have ended up if we had gone my way to begin with)

We both agreed that beer was in order and we began the ordeal of waiting in line. Rach tried several times to get a location of any of our friends, but how exactly to you find a group of 5-10 people amongst 50,000??

Undaunted, we waited in line for beer and proceeded to make a bonehead move. We bought alot of beer.

See, you would think normally that this is a good thing, but it was truly a misplaced idea. We wanted to hook up with our friends, it didn't really matter which set of friends at this point. We figured to be heroes bearing beer or something.

We decided that 12 was a good number and the beer dude proceeds to place 12 beers on a cardboard tray and open them. hmmm 78 bucks thankyouverymuch

Of course, by this time Rach needed to pee again so I took a seat under a tree with my platter of beer to drink, wait, listen to the Allmans last set, drink, and wait some more.

Two beers (tall boys baby) and one hour later, Rachel returns from the porta-potty and we began to make our way towards the stage.

Quickly I evaluated my error in judgment as I stumbled around with an opened platter of tallboys hoisted in my best waiter pose, through throngs and throngs of people.

We made fairly good headway until the inevitable. I caught my foot on someone's blanket and, despite my greatest effort, busted my ass.

I picked myself up with some help and rescued as many of the now half empty beers as I could.

Once I decided I was OK, I joined the nearby spectators in a good laugh, and proceeded to hand out beer to whoever wanted it.

We stood and watched the show with our newfound friends for a few songs, then tromped onward to the front of the stage.

We never did find any of our real friends, despite the effort, but I really didn't care at that point, I was barely coherent.

I vaguely remember the sweet aroma of pot and tromping through the bushes looking for a place to pee. Then we found a nice place on the hill looking towards the show and sat for the first time.

I remember being fairly pleased with the setting and music, but also I remember the need to GTFO. I was done with the crowd, and Rach was less than pleased when I wanted to go before the show was over.

Eventually we made it back to Stacy's apartment. It was a good thing too since Rach kept her keys. We brought Taco bell for them and went inside.

Somehow during the show, Stacy led Jerry to a restricted area in which he fell on his face scaling a fence. His nose was was a little bloody and he twisted his knee. I would characterize his attitude as grim...at best. The tacos did little to brighten his mood.

Things are a good bit foggy for me at this point as I went into drunken food coma. I believe my wife seriously considered divorce at some point trying to get me up and to the car.

When we got home, she left me passed out in the car, and I slept in the garage like the dog I am.

Good times, good times.

I'll post the first 2 days result of my challenge tonight.

Cheers!

So much to say, so much to say, so much to say...

Oy vey, I feel like I'm returning to the scene of a crime. My little corner of the blogosphere is getting cold and dusty.

I have been on ultra mega super secret work tilt for the past 3 freaking weeks it seems. The night before last I had one of my old waiter dreams.

All waiter dreams follow the same premise: I'm cruising along in the busiest section of the restauraunt, busting my ass and all of the sudden I'm in the weeds.

I walked into my section of the restaurant and it had become a movie theater. I had about 12 tables to get to and at the first one sits my grandmother Phronia. She starts asking me about the kids and why I don't call or visit. geesh! Guilt trip to boot!

I'm running aroung frantic, trying to get orders and dealing with bitching customers. When I got to the 4th table, I realized I was having a dream and woke my ass up. I haven't had one of those dreams in 10 years, and wasn't about to have another one.

The good thing about not having many lucid dreams is that when I have one, I can usually guide it or shut it off. But talk about work tilt....ugh I really hate being stressed, especially when the source of my stress is something which lies beyond my control, or is the result of someone else's stupidity, and is sometimes both.

What else....I made a whirlwind trip to NY where I didn't even get to spend the night. I missed the first 2 rounds of Chad's (exKoD) fantasy league. Even though I set up my auto draft picks I was stuck with Rudi Johnson in 5th position (not horrible, but not my first choice) and Ronnie Brown in 10th, who was nowhere near my top 10 picks (wtf). I followed that up with what is turning out to be a very questionable pick of Drew Breeze in the 3rd round.

Needless to say I have woefully underperformed in the first 2 games. I can't manage myself out of it either as I managed to play Reggie Brown over Braylon Edwards in week 2....ooof!

I did manage to play some live cards at Poker Cats arena last week and Friday I had a woefully short .50/1.00 mixed game in the neighborhood. Which obviously turned into a donkfest in which I gave back the stack I had spent the night accumulating. TILT!!

I have been reading blogs all weekend and commenting here and there when I've had time. But now I'm ready to get back on the metaphorical horse.

I've been inspired by Gnome, CC, and Waffles (for god's sake) to reevaluate my poker play for the eleventeenth time this year. I must apply some patience and discipline. These things sorely lack in my life, especially in poker. I'd rather just DO it and take what comes.

No more. I will plan, divide, and conquer.....or I'll take my chips and go home.

At some point today I will deposit $200 into PS (to get some bonus cash), and $100 into FT.

At no point will I enter into a SNG with more than %5 of my roll on a particular site. I will not enter any MTT with more than 3% of my bankroll at anytime.

When I double up and ONLY when I double up am I allowed to play cash tables. At no time will I risk more than 2% at a cash table. I will venture to protect my roll at all costs. I will not play while drinking.

Caveats to this: $1 SNG or MTT is the lowest I will go. I am allowed to play the mookie or the MATH ONLY if I have earned the entry in the proceeding 24 hours. Drinking during the mook is not only allowed, but encouraged.

There's probably a hole in my plan there, I have never even had a bankroll management plan ever, so there ya go.

Any comments, suggestions, or side bets are welcome.

Weekend Update and Footballpaloosa

I'm fargin beat. I've been up since 4am Yesterday morning.

Here's what I was able to write today:

A little late, but hey, I'm a busy dude.

I'm writing this on a Delta flight to New York City at 8AM. I got up this morning at 4:15 to get to the airport and check in. I'm flying back tonight (hopefully), so I won't get a change to bug any of the NY bloggers while I'm here.

I gotta tell you, I had a pretty damn goot weekend. I took Friday off, but ended up working for most of the morning on stupid crap that only I am capable of doing properly.....long story short, I tried to let my sysadmin take care of something once, and even with DETAILED instructions, it managed to get effed up. So in the sake of my sanity, I just buckled in and did it.

One thing that really chaps my ass is that I can completely do my job from home if I didn't have the parade of morons who come to me with stupid questions and issues. I digress...

Friday night the wife went out and I played cards/donated money for the evening. The duality of loving/hating the donkament rides high when I donate 20 bucks only to get called all in by AK vs JJ on a flop that completely missed. weeeee

Saturday we dropped the kids off at a party and had a great lunch and a few beers. I got a taste of the Sierra Nevada anniversary and the obligitory Dogfishhead 60 Minute IPA. YUUUUM

After that we got the kids and went home to clean and watch football. I watched a good bit of BigBlew getting manhandled by ASU, and the first bit of the GATech/Notre Dame game.

The wife and I had our own party to go to, so we had to clean up a bit for the babysitter. We took the kids for a bit. They got to sing some kereoke with the neighbors kids and we ate some fried chicken, corn on the cob and greens. woot.

I love some good cookin' Eventually the wife took the kids home and came back for the 'adult' part of the party, which consisted of about 10 people standing around drinking a bottle of patron and shooting the shit in the kitchen.

Do all parties devolve to highschool drunkfests for you too?? I wasn't too in to it and neither was the wife, so we went home fairly early and had a nice night lounging on the porch chatting it up.

Sunday morning we nearly got up for church, but decided we were on vacation and skipped it. I made a nice big breakfast for the family and we took it easy in the AM.

Around 2 we took the kids up to the pool which was surprisingly nearly empty. They played for a good bit, and some of our friends joined. My son was unapologetically pummeled by the gaggle of girls. Secretly I think he liked it.

Sunday afternoon I celebrated my first weeks win in the College football pool. I totally decimated the field with 15/20 against the number this weekend!! That was good for 2 bills. I also won a little on the GA who manhandled ooooosssssuuuu.

Monday we drove up to Athens to celebrate my grandmother's 90th birthday. I also got to see my brother and sister. We all got to witness a nice little manic episode from my Aunt. Good times were had by all, but the whole day was shot.

Thats about it in a nutshell, fun was had things were done, drinks were consumed. That's about all you can ask from a holiday weekend.

It is now 8:07PM and I am in the air somewhere between Baltimore and Atlanta. I managed to get what I could done in NY and hopped an early flight. Maybe now I wont miss my Fantasy Draft with the bloggers. ..Here's to hope.

By the way, the NFL starts tomorrow, so if you wanna play int the ghey blogger (and riverchasers) Pick'em league then JOIN DAMMIT and send me 10 bucks. Follow the links below. When I decide to wake up I will list who has paid on the pickem site.
